Chinese ginger price declined by 50.67% YoY to USD 0.69/kg in W5 Jun-22. Rainfall since June in Shandong Province affected the quality of ginger and the cellar was flooded and rotten. The damage left very few good quality gingers and few qualified for export reflected in the decreased Chinese ginger export value. As a result, most of the ginger that was salvaged from the rainfall damage had no choice but to reroute back and sell it to the domestic market. That reason led the price of ginger in Shandong price remained low in late June 2022. Additionally, the global supply of ginger is on the rise because Peru and Thailand increased their production of ginger.
