Onion Prices in India Surge 18% WoW due to Heavy Rainfalls and Low Quality Supply

India's Uttar Pradesh market has witnessed a remarkable surge in the wholesale price of red onions, reaching USD 0.29 per kilogram in W34. This startling 18% WoW and 50% MoM increase is primarily attributed to a surplus of low-quality onions, a consequence of prolonged summer heat. Consequently, the Indian government has swiftly responded by imposing a 40% export duty on onions until December 31, aiming to secure sufficient domestic onion supplies
