Ecuador has been exporting bananas since 1910, when it exported over 71,000 bunches of more than 100 pounds. Since large-scale cultivation began, the Ecuadorian government has been involved in the banana industry. Ecuador exports three varieties of bananas to the international market: Cavendish, Baby banana (Orito), and Red (Rojo). Cavendish bananas make up over 80% of the country's banana production and exports.
Ecuador is the world's top exporter of bananas due to its unique soil and climate, which contribute to the quality and flavor of its bananas. Ecuadorian bananas are highly regarded in international markets in Europe, Asia, and North America. Our Global Origination Manager in Ecuador has established relationships with experienced suppliers of all types of bananas, including organic, baby, and red bananas.
