National sheep slaughter halved compared with the same time last year to 325,900 in May, the lowest national total since July 2016. According to ABS data, all states experienced reductions in throughput, with South Australia dropping 40 percent compared with May last year. NSW slaughter fell 18 percent, while Victoria noted a 35 percent decline. This lower demand has affected the price as well, with prices being around 15-20% less compared to the same period of last year.
