(By Planeta Arroz) The Argentine government formalized on September 9 the elimination of export tariffs for a set of value-added products from so-called “regional economies”, including wine, rice and peanuts. The measure that ends “retentions” was formalized through Decree 462/2023 published in the Official Gazette and covers around 360 tariff positions of the Common Nomenclature of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), corresponding to the agro-industrial sector. The Executive indicated that the modification of the export tax regime seeks to “promote the development and incentive to production and the addition of national value, and to exports from production chains with a greater territorial presence and potential for job creation”. Among the products of regional economies (outside the Pampa Húmeda region) covered by the measure are peanuts, rice, forestry industry, wine, must, tobacco, citrus by-products, among others.
