After the release of data from the bovine, sheep and goat dairy sector for December 2022 by the Ministry of Agriculture, the Union of Farmers and Cattlemen pointed out that a number of closures of farms was higher than usual in Spain. With the 2022 results, the Unión de Uniones informs that, in December, 10,665 dairy cow farms, 2,667 sheep farms and 3,851 dairy goat farms remained in Spain; having decreased the number of cows on 782 farms (-7% with 2.1 fewer farms per day); sheep: 258 (-9%, with 0.7 farms less per day) and goats: 602 (-14%, with 1.6 farms less per day). In the case of bovine milk production, the region that lost the most farms was the Valencian Community, along with La Rioja and Extremadura, which lost between 17 and 22% of their farms.
