Staged progress has been made in the embryo transfer of dairy sheep in Ulanqab City, Inner Mongolia in China

Recently, the Animal Husbandry Workstation of the Municipal Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Bureau and the provincial department of Inner Mongolia University jointly established the State Key Laboratory of Reproductive Regulation and Breeding of Grassland Livestock in Fengdong Zhiying Company of Fengzhen City to carry out the embryo transfer of Dongfoli raw milk sheep. The work started on December 26, 2021. In the early stage, 14 ewes were selected as donors and 221 valid embryos were provided. From January 4 to 6, the embryo flushing and transfer work was carried out, and 204 embryos were used to transfer recipient mothers. 138 sheep (58 of which were transferred with double or triple embryos), and 17 embryos were cryopreserved; 86 cloned embryos were used to transfer 8 recipient ewes, with an average of 10.7 embryos transferred per ew. The successful completion of this embryo transfer has laid a good foundation for cultivating a new breed of sheep with both meat and milk in our city.
