El estado brasileño de São Paulo es responsable del 90% de la producción nacional de maní

Al celebrar el Día del Maní, el 13 de septiembre, la Secretaría de Agricultura y Abastecimiento del Estado de São Paulo destaca el crecimiento del mercado nacional con importante participación de variedades resultantes de la investigación y extensión rural en São Paulo, además de la importancia nutricional de los productos que llegan a los consumidores.
The varieties developed by the Agronomic Institute (IAC-Apta), through the main Peanut Genetic Improvement Program in Brazil, occupy 80% of the planted area in São Paulo, the main producing state and responsible for 90% of all national peanuts. In these areas, the cultivars IAC 503 and IAC OL3 are the most planted and represent 60% of the total. Under the leadership of researcher Ignácio Godoy, the IAC Peanut Genetic Improvement Program is adapted to the new needs and demands of the market, mainly with the development of high oleic peanut cultivars. “This characteristic is very important as it reduces rancidity of the grain and increases the shelf life of processed peanuts, in addition to being good for the health of the consumer. The new IAC materials also present production stability and stand out in both favorable and unfavorable environments”, says Ignácio.
