Cambodia continues to increase cashew exports to Vietnam

According to Uon Silot, chairman of the Cambodia Cashew Association (CFA), from January to March 2024, Cambodia produced 474,000 tons of raw cashews, of which 424,000 tons were exported to Vietnam, with a total export value of approximately US$543 million, a year-on-year increase of 13%. The chairman of the Cambodia Cashew Association also said that as of April 2024, the price of fresh cashews in Cambodia has risen to around US$1.25/kg, the highest price in nearly 15 years. Mr. Oun Silot said that the recent increase in cashew prices is because when the price of fresh cashews falls, fruit farmers keep cashews for drying. The increase in cashew drying and storage has reduced the export volume of cashews. He also expressed the hope that cashew prices will continue to rise in the future when many cashew-growing countries are affected by the El Nino phenomenon, resulting in a significant reduction in cashew production. It is predicted that Cambodia's cashew production will decrease by 10-30% compared with 2023 due to the El Nino phenomenon. (End)
