As a result, prices for these seafood products are increasing, fueled by robust demand in Portugal and Spain. Even prominent Spanish importers are encountering difficulties in securing adequate stock. The situation is being evaluated weekly, but the outlook for these products remains unfavorable.

High Demand for Hake Sausage in Portuguese and Spanish Markets During W6 Amid Scarcity Due to Low Production

At present, the availability of hake sausage is notably scarce, particularly due to limited production across the three primary markets. Namibia and South Africa are generating minimal quantities of fillets, consequently leading to a dearth in hake sausage production. Similarly, Argentina, another significant supplier market, is experiencing reduced hake catches, predominantly comprising large-sized hake that are being sold as HGT (headed, gutted, and tailed) instead of fillets, resulting in residual byproduct production. Conversely, the demand for hake sausage remains substantial in the Portuguese and Spanish markets. Processors in these regions are eager to procure this product and are willing to offer competitive prices.

Argentina's seafood exports reach $1.757 billion in 2023

The annual export report prepared by the Argentine shipowners' association CAPECA details foreign sales of key fisheries products in 2023, and the final result showed $1.757 billion, equivalent to a 2.3% drop compared to 2022. The competitiveness of key products such as shrimp has decreased, although in the case of headless shrimp it remains on a volume basis.

Argentina: The Federal Fisheries Council says goodbye without leaving management plans or reviewing quotas

The Federal Fisheries Council published its last minutes under the current configuration. In four years they were not able to generate management plans for hake and shrimp. Nor did they take the trouble to review compliance with the hake quota regime, when in 2024 it must be decided.
