Shipment of Philippine Pineapple Will Possibly Use A Reefer Ship Instead of Containers in 2023

In the Philippines, a new player in the shipping industry is negotiating with major corporate exporters for Japanese and Korean markets, which will be a great addition to the fresh produce supply chain needs, especially for pineapples. There are some issues of delayed container arrivals in some ports due to trans-shipment hub issues of some shipping lines. The answer to major issues in Pineapple shipments may be available soon for the Davao – Japan – Korea route by using a reefer ship instead of containers. This time, it will be a more efficient delivery to at least two ports in both Japan and Korea destinations. The main focus at the moment is the rates per ton of Fresh Fruits compared to the rates offered by container shipping lines.

The Pineapple Operations Were Limited Due to the Holidays in the Philippines in W52

In W52, there were many days when farm operations were controlled and limited to prioritizing tasks in the Philippines. The farm workers will only focus on the degreening of the fruits and “Forcing Operations” on areas planned for the 2023 harvest. Strict guidelines are followed to ensure the fruit is fresh and the proper color for the W1 harvest. Because of a market holiday in Japan, the shipping to that key market will not take place for W1. Since more supplies had previously shipped before the World Cup season, other markets like China and the Middle East had fewer orders.
