One of the varieties of pineapple grown in the Philippines is the Smooth Cayenne. It is also known as the Hawaiian variety, which is the heaviest and one of the most popular. The fruit is cylindrical in shape and weighs 2.5 to 3.6 kilograms. The flesh is pale yellow, soft, and juicy with high sugar content ranging between 13° to 19° Brix. It takes 18 months for the fruit to mature and each hectare can yield approximately 25,000 fruits.

Smooth Cayenne is the most favored for canning having sufficient fiber for firm slices and cubes as well as excellent flavor.
