History

Hayfene is a brand which embraces a 500 year old history. Being a family business since 1517, the brand’s story started in Taif – a city under Ottoman rule at the time. For around 300 years, the family actively continued trading between Egypt, Istanbul and Malatya. The spice business today was founded in 1886, and settled at a constant address in 1970s. That address was Mısır Çarşısı, aka. the world famous Spice Bazaar in Istanbul.

Today, the business in the historic “Çarşı” is still running, hosting hundreds of customers every day, while the 5th generation continuously adapts new ways to improve and expand the operations. Inherited a deep understanding of trading business, Hayfene is now an incorporation of 3 brands, production facilities, e-commerce sites, and international business networks. In the last 10 years alone, the brand provided high quality spices to more than 2000 corporate clients, including international hotel chains, prominent restaurants and not to mention the world famous chefs. The goal now is to advance the existing success and carry it to future.

Meaning “Hayfene” is a unique word from the local dialect of Malatya, at where the roots of the brand are. Briefly, it means “collective picnic”. When the children of a village or of a neighborhood knock all the doors and collect food from every house, bring them all together and create a big, diverse and colorful table, it is called “Hayfene”.

The ultimate passion of Hayfene brand is to create a community, where the food is in the center and people come together around it. The name itself represents this passion in a humble but cheerful way, and celebrates the bonding power, taste and culture of food.

Vision

Rooted in a country like Turkey, where the variety of endemic plant species and biodiversity is regarded as “outstanding”, and the kitchen is amazingly rich due to its flora along with the historic and cultural wealth, Hayfene considers it as a mission to preserve this heritage and spread it to the world.

The brand is aware that, to honor the cultural and gastronomic heritage of Turkey and its own family history, to keep up with today’s necessities, create a visionary future and to last its name for another 130 years, it needs to improve and flourish beyond the pillars the ancestors had built.
