On July 14, 1976, the date of the Constitution Assembly, Companhia Agrcola Sonora Estância was established. Its founding partners, Maurcio Coutinho Dutra and his nephew, Engineer Raul Kelvin de Thuin, were present.
The Aquárius Distillery, one of the first in the Cerrado, was built in 1977 as a result of the Proálcool event. It began operating successfully two years later.
On May 16, 1980, Rio Corrente - Agro Modern, Ltda was made, an organization related with Companhia Agrícola Sonora Estância, liable for the development of sugarcane, an obligation that actually exists today.
With the Giobbi Group and Cigla, a Brazilian construction company with Italian participation in the Impregilo Group, the companies entered into a definitive agreement in 1983. In 1979, a portion of the agreement was negotiated.
A sugar factory was built in 1994, and production began during the harvests of 1995 and 1996.
Grupo Giobbi became the sole owner of Grupo Cigla when it purchased its share in the company in 2002.
Sonora Estância S.A. took over Companhia Agrcola Sonora Estância on November 28, 2006, and now operates in the fuel ethanol, sugar, soy, corn, sorghum, and electricity sectors.Since 2000, it has been a member of the ETHOS Institute for Social Responsibility Companies because it believes that businesses should actively participate in the discussion of social and business responsibility by sharing experiences and making their projects and practices public.It has been awarded the title "Empresa Amiga da Criança" by the Abrinq Foundation since 1998, demonstrating its dedication to child protection.
With a focus on quality, Sonora Estância was awarded the GMP seal on September 4, 2012, establishing the standards for food manufacturers. On the same day, on February 20, 2013, the FSSC 22000 certification was granted.
