Their tea-expert's extraordinary granddad was a tea rancher, working in the fields of Uji. Our family has had a connection to tea ever since. Rishouen was established in 1947 and is currently led by our second-generation tea master, Mr. Koji Kagata. Since his father taught him the Way of Tea, Mr. Kagata has worked in the tea industry for more than 30 years. Naoki Kagata, his son, is also a tea master at Rishouen and will carry on the family business after his father.
Rishouen Tea is the final step in a long line of events that go into making tea. We keep up with the community around us, the people who supply our teas, and the cutting-edge technology used to make our tea because we believe that each step of the process is absolutely necessary. Rishouen Tea is known as a fair and respectable teahouse by both the fieldworkers who till the soil and pick each leaf and the factory workers who tend to the machines used to prepare the tea for consumption. We eagerly pay for their fine product because we can see firsthand the care and effort they put into presenting a superior tea.
