Skybury was started in 1987 by Ian and Marion MacLaughlin as a family business with a cutting-edge approach to farming, a drive to succeed, a need to push the limits, and an unwavering love of the land. Skybury is a multi-layered ranch, delivering sweet red papaya and grant-winning espresso. Skybury is Australia's single-largest papaya grower, with locations all along the eastern seaboard, including Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide. Skybury was the first Australian grower to export green coffee to Japan, Europe, and Canada. Today, Skybury exports approximately 50% of its crop, making it Australia's largest exporter of Arabica coffee.
Through a specially designed interactive farm-based tourism experience, we share our love of the land. The Skybury Cafe and Roastery, now in its 12th year of operation, lets people visit the plantation and celebrate the produce grown on our farm. We not only display our products, but also those of our neighbors and the incredible diversity of our region. Our roast coffee distribution center is located at the Skybury Cafe and Roastery. Each year, more than 20 tons of roast coffee are shipped to cafes and homes across Australia. Since merging with North Queensland Gold Coffee Plantation, our long-time neighbors, and fellow coffee farmers, at the end of 2017, this part of the business continues to grow and provides opportunities for us to showcase Australian coffee.
