Why Us?

01

Regenerative Viticulture

In 2022, the SCEA Château de Rouffiac began its adventure, opening up an exciting new chapter for the estate. The vines were planted here in 1971, the year the Cahors AOC was created. With the acquisition of around 30 hectares of vineyards, our mission is clear: to harmoniously blend tradition and modernity. Our approach is geared towards regenerative viticulture, a perfect marriage between respect for the environment, social commitment and sustainable economics. Our attention to detail is reflected in every bottle, guaranteeing wines of the highest quality. Our medium-term goal? To fully adopt this philosophy of regenerative viticulture. At present, we are maintaining the High Environmental Value (HVE) certification inherited from the previous estate, while beginning the transition to organic farming. We aim to go beyond these usual standards, paving the way for the introduction of regenerative certification (ROC), which is still in its infancy in Europe, marking our commitment to a greener, more sustainable future in the world of wine.

02

Unique Terroir

The Château de Rouffiac vineyard covers 30 hectares of AOP Cahors vines on the Lot hillsides in the communes of Duravel and Puy l'Evêque. The profile of the Lot valley offers winemakers a wide range of terroirs in which to produce exceptional wines, and Château de Rouffiac cultivates vines spread over several of these terroirs. The soils of Cahors Siderolithic soils: This unique soil type is made up of clay, limestone and iron-rich rocks, allowing the vines to thrive in a warm, sunny climate. The limestone acts as a natural filter, allowing the vines to absorb essential minerals and nutrients from the soil, while the iron-rich rocks add a unique minerality to the grapes. Clay-limestone soils: Clay-limestone soils are renowned for their ability to retain water, ensuring a steady supply of water for the vines. They also provide good drainage, encouraging root development and limiting the risk of grape rot. Limestone soils provide essential minerals that are reflected in the wines produced.

Modern Wines

The wines of Château de Rouffiac are the result of ancestral know-how combined with modern winemaking methods. Our wines offer all the complexity and depth you'd expect from a grand cru. Our team works passionately to produce wines that are not only of the highest quality, but also imbued with a unique personality. The Cahors wines produced by the Château are made from traditional grape varieties, notably the famous Malbec. We also produce rosé and white wines that benefit from the Côtes du Lot Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). Our cellar is located at the château, high up in the appellation. Our aim is to offer a range of different styles, which we invite you to discover: wines with a long ageing period and a traditional, ageing profile, fruitier wines that are accessible as soon as they go on sale, and wines vinified in more original ways to attract the curiosity of wine-lovers. All our wines are vinified without sulphites and with a minimum of inputs. In other words, from harvest to the end of fermentation, no sulphites are added to ensure maximum expression of fruity aromas. After fermentation, we sulphite the wines as little as possible, and well below the specifications for organic farming, to ensure that they are perfectly preserved and that you don't get any nasty surprises when you open them, whether on the evening of purchase or a few years later!
