The activities of illegal miners have restricted banana producers in Ghana to only farm along the banks of the Volta Lake, as most of the soil in other rivers are polluted with heavy metals caused by illegal mining activities in the country. The Banana Producers Association of Ghana introduced the occupational health and safety (OSH) manual to safeguard workers on their farmlands and to ensure that their farms were accident-free.
