The volume of potatoes exported does not exceed 10,000 tonnes per year, while a few years ago the average was around 100,000 tonnes annually. Likewise, the number of exporters has also fallen, from around 30 to only 4 currently for niche varieties. This drop, although drastic, is explained by the fact that farmers prefer other crops that offer more profit margin such as tomatoes, peppers, peppers, green beans, etc. There are also complications in terms of certification, not to mention sure competition from other countries including the Mediterranean, according to the Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruit and Vegetables (APEFEL). Morocco has certainly lost market share at the level of its historic market (Europe) but it exports to new countries, especially from West Africa where standards are less imposing.
