Malaysia's 2,500 poultry farmers suffered losses due to the MCO. This is because there used to be an enormous demand on building sites, in factories and schools. Now they have been closed due to COVID-19. While some farmers slaughter their own poultry and freeze the meat before selling it online, many have sold at a loss. There are suppliers who sold as cheap as RM2 per kg when the cost of raising the chickens was about RM6. It is said that the industry lost millions of ringgit during the MCO.
