The Philippines is a megadiverse country where five out of nine honey bee species in the world are native. As such, there is major potential in honey production and distribution. In fact, a number of local enterprises have seen the benefits of innovating around honey and have sought intellectual property protection for their ideas. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the production of honey is scarce as farmers and honey makers are not able to go to work for months due to the lockdown. Therefore, the supply of honey is not as high as last year in the Philippines.
