In order to support the export process of strategic fishery commodities from West Java such as squid and shrimp, the government of Indonesia has officially opened up the Patimban port in West Java. This new port provides direct shipment from West Java to the neighboring countries such as Malaysia and Singapore, as well as to other Southern and Eastern Asian countries. This new port covers a total area of 634 hectares with 354 hectares of loading and unloading area and 300 hectares of warehouse and lay-down area. The existence of this new port would enable the exporters in West Java to ship their commodities to their respective destinations directly from this province without having to transit in the major port in Jakarta, hence enabling these exporters to also reduce the delivery time as well as the transportation cost.
