Winter production for several crop expected to increase

The winter crop production in Eastern and Southern region is estimated to be around 44.5 million tonnes which are 11% above the 10-year average. Wheat production is forecast to increase by 76 % and reach 26.7 million tonnes, Barley is forecasted to increase by 17% to 10.6 million tonnes and Canola production is forecast to increase by 40% and reach 3.2 million tonnes. The highest increase is estimated for chickpeas production which is expected to increase by 135% to 661,000 tonnes and oats production is forecast to increase by 81% to 1.6 million tonnes.
