The nordic food safety authority Mattilsynet recently announced that manufacturers will be allowed to include fishmeal supply for poultry and pig markets distribution as an exemption. The shortage of feed ingredients with meaningful amino acid contents, which are essential for high-quality livestock and poultry feeds is the main reason, as the country saw a reduction in imports of these vital raw materials for animal nutrition. The manufacturers will need to issue a permit request to the food safety authority aforementioned, by providing documentary evidence of amino acid supply that had been cut short, and of a separate line for the production of feeds for ruminants. The permission is rather to be temporary due to the COVID-19 disruptions into the feed value chains of the country.

Not ony fishmeal had been banned to be included in feeds for ruminants in EU almost 20 years ago but also MBM, in order to contain the risk of diseases.
