268.000 Eastern European workers help out in the harvest of asparagus and strawberry in Germany

In every year between April and October about 286.000 people come from Poland and other Eastern European countries to Germany to work mainly in the harvest of asparagus and strawberry, The harvest of these produces is very labour-intensive as they need to be picked by hand. 6 of the Agricultural Associations in Germany has turned to the Federal Minister of Labour and Social Affairs to make some short term modifications in the regulations to make this possible despite the present global health crisis.
