As one of the biggest producing region of turmeric in Indonesia, Ponorogo regency in Central Java province is currently targeting substantial growth in the total production output from 7,800 MT in 2019 to 8,200 MT in 2020. The proposed production increase is driven by two factors. One, increasing demand for turmeric from the pharmaceutical industry both nationally and overseas. And two, the availability of plantation land that can be utilized to produce turmeric. As a reference, dried and fresh turmeric from Indonesia, especially Ponorogo recency, has been routinely exported to India to be used as an ingredient for various medicines. In 2019 alone, the demand from India reached a peak at 3,000 MT per year and the local government expects this number to remain consistent in 2020.
