As a part of the effort to ensure the safety of the seafood products that are exported from Indonesia to overseas buyers, the Ministry of Maritime has recently issued a new procedure regarding the export process. This new regulation would require all seafood products to enter a temporary quarantine period in the seaport or airport to undergo additional inspection procedures and obtain a phytosanitary certificate from the Ministry of Agriculture. This certification used to be allocated exclusively for agricultural products, but now it would also be implemented to the seafood products, especially to the strategic commodities such as lobster, shrimp, and crabs. Aside from ensuring the safety and the quality of the commodity itself, this new procedure and certification are also intended to ensure the safety of the people involved in the process such as the cargo workers, to protect them from the possible diseases that got carried on by the seafood products.
