Two varieties of ginger that have long been grown in Malaysia are Bentong (highland ginger) and Tanjung Sepat (Indonesian ginger). However, the most commonly grown and exported ginger is Bentong ginger. Bentong ginger is spicy, fine, and fragrant, while its high fibre content makes it one of the best ginger varieties. With an output of over 7000MT/year ginger barrels are exported in SEA countries on a large scale.
