On Saturday, March 28th, the loading of maize on a ship from Brazil destined to Peru was impeded for the first time, due to the operational restrictions implemented since Friday 27th by the Center for Fluvial, Fishing and Maritime Cabotage Officers and the United Maritime Workers Union ( SOMU).
The protocol applied by the unions states "No docking or access to port will be allowed in any port in the country to any ship that has not complied with the quarantine of 14 days from the last port of departure, whether in navigation or at anchor".
Both unions indicated that this measure will not be enforced for those ships that, even if they do not have those 14 days of quarantine, are transporting all kinds of supplies, merchandise, etc., essential for public health and the operation of essential services.
The authorities of the Chamber of Private and Commercial Ports (CPPC) and the Chamber of the Oil Industry of the Argentine Republic and the Cereal Export Center (Ciara-CEC) have sent a note to the Ministry of Transport requesting the minister to apply the necessary means to reverse this measure taken by the unions and order the flow of exports which are essential to the country.
