Northern Mindanao in the Philippines is the leading cassava-producing region with 173.24 thousand metric tons or 33.6 percent of the country’s total cassava output for the first quarter of the year 2020. Suppliers in the region are aiming to increase sales both domestic and international by up to 20% at the end of the second quarter this year. There are a couple of challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic such as the imposed lockdowns and closure of businesses, but they are looking for ways to be able to continue production by investing more on machinery as labor is quite limited at the moment.
