Although jackfruit is naturally growing in the Philippines, demand from food processors was so enormous that local farmers were unable to supply the required quantity. The local market here prefers fried and dried jackfruit instead of fresh. Demand for the fruit is growing and local production can hardly keep up, resulting in annual imports from Vietnam and Thailand.
