Morocco has officialized laws on the delimitation of its maritime borders with Spain, The laws appeared on the Official Bulletin on Monday, March 30.
The legislative text protects Morocco’s rights to preserve the ecosystem and freely perform research on its territorial sea.
The second text, Law 38-17, delimits Morocco’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), extending over 200 nautical miles from Moroccan coasts, along with the limits of its continental shelf, 350 nautical miles away from its coasts.
By redefining Morocco's maritime borders, the fish sector activists are dually optimistic about the future impact of this decision and worried about the political tensions to result between the two countries.
