In the second quarter of 2020, and in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, the export of frozen tuna from Indonesia has in fact experienced noteworthy growth compared to the same period the year before. In the span of April to the first week of June of 2020, the national tuna industry has booked a 200 MT of export volume to countries such as the United States, France, and Belgium. For Belgium in particular, tuna imports from Indonesia were high to fulfill the high demand from the buyers in the country during the pandemic. The Indonesian tuna industry is optimistic that the export can be pushed to around 250 MT until the end of June 2020.
