Apricot harvest underway in Malatya with high expectations for exports

The apricot harvest which is expected to last 45 days in Malatya is still underway. The growers expect to export 20 kmt of fresh apricots this season from the city. The first exports are already on their way to Germany, which is regarded as the main export destination for apricots.

There are around 8 million apricot trees within the city borders and aside from the fresh apricot exports, a majority of the harvested apricots are used for dried apricot production. Last year Turkey had exported 100 kmt of dried apricots for an export value of 253 million USD.
