Strawberry harvest has started in the Orhangazi district of Bursa where strawberries are nicknamed as "red diamond" due to their high-quality. The annual production volume expected in the district is around 500 tons and the current farmgate price ranges between 1 and 1.4 USD per kg.
Turkey had produced 487 kmt of strawberries in 2019 and Bursa was the 4th biggest strawberry production city with a production volume of 49 kmt.
Turkey had exported 25.3 kmt of strawberries last year for an export value of 24.9 million USD. Russia, Iraq, Romania, Georgia, and Saudi Arabia were the top strawberry export destinations for Turkish growers.
