South Sumatra has the potential to become a coffee bean export hub

Despite having one of the largest reserved plantation lands for coffee beans in Indonesia, the South Sumatra province is still experiencing the slowest annual growth of around 3% when it comes to the national contribution for coffee beans production compared to other producing provinces in Indonesia. Out of the total 263 K hectares of land, this province is utilizing only 20% for production. This situation has caught the attention of the local government which is currently in discussion with the farmers association to conduct training on how to maximize production, as well as issuing a low-interest credit loan to fund their production activities. The local government stressed the importance of this initiative considering the high potential of South Sumatra to be a major export hub for coffee beans to neighboring countries such as Malaysia and Singapore due to the close proximity of South Sumatra with the aforementioned countries.
