White peppercorn prices increasing in Indonesia

The price of white pepper on the wholesaler level, especially in the major producing regions in Indonesia such as South Sumatra and South Sulawesi, has shown an upward trend in the past two weeks. Currently, white pepper is sold at IDR 55.000/Kg, a slight increase from its highest price last week at IDR 50.000/Kg. This latest development was caused by the stabilization of white pepper stock in the national market, in comparison to the previous two weeks where the national white pepper industry was faced with a surplus that significantly lower the selling price of white pepper on the wholesaler level. Some sellers expect that the price would continue to increase slightly in the coming weeks following the completion of the harvest season across Indonesia.
