A new market for Indonesian seaweed exports

Because of the decrease in demand for seaweed from China due to the coronavirus outbreak, the seaweed farmers in South Sulawesi are now changing their export destination to Hong Kong. Hong Kong was chosen as an alternative export destination not only due to the high demand for seaweed in Hong Kong, but also due to Hong Kong's proximity to China and the availability of direct shipment from Port of Makassar in South Sulawesi to Port Victoria. This initiative is taken as a part of the effort from the local government in Sulawesi to keep their export value consistent and to keep opening up new markets for the leading export commodity from this province.
