Tanzania is experiencing a surge in demand for Green Mung Beans from Vietnam and Bangkok. This phenomenon is due to the recent imposition of import duties on Argentinian Green Mung Beans in Vietnam, creating a window of opportunity for Tanzanian-origin beans to enter the market. Ordinarily, the Green Mung Bean season in Tanzania would be in full swing in April, with a significant harvest volume exported to India. However, due to market disruption, farmers are now able to enjoy early-season sales in February 2023, with a considerable portion of the yield being exported to Bangkok and Vietnam.

Furthermore, India has implemented an import quota of 200K MT of Green Mung Beans for the 2022/23 season, further impacting the market and creating opportunities for Tanzanian farmers. As a result of this surge in demand, the price of Green Mung Bean EXW Dar es Salaam has risen significantly, with prices in W8 reaching as high as USD 0.64/kg. This is a considerable increase from the average EXW Dar es Salaam price of USD 0.47/kg.
