The almond board of California released the April position report detailing shipments of 245 million pounds, representing a decrease of 1.9% compared to last April. In terms of YTD, the rate is down 13%. The shipments were a lot more robust than expected and to only be down by 1.9% represents a fantastic shipment report compared to expectations. Although logistics continue to hamper true potential, export shipments set a record for the month of April. The US market was a surprise on the other hand, with sales down by 10.9% in the domestic market. New sales for the month were up from 163 to 168 million pounds despite expectations of a weak sales figure with a disjointed selling month after the position report and TNT estimate, followed by currency turbulence. Prices have remained stable throughout the month at a USD 0.10 p/lb trading range.
