28 of February marks the Day of Andalusia, an autonomous community that is the leading exporter of fresh fruit and vegetables, with 4.4 million MT in 2021, 1% more than in 2020 and EUR 6,052 million, 7% more, being vegetables are the most exported and within these pepper, cucumber and tomato and also highlighting, in fruit, watermelon, orange, and strawberry.
The exported volume of vegetables in 2021 fell by 3% compared to 2020, totaling 2.8 million MT, mainly due to the decline in tomatoes, with 455,503 MT exported, 11% less than in 2020. To a lesser measure, they also fell the quantities sold abroad of pepper and cucumber, the first and second most exported vegetables by Andalusia, with 4% less in the case of pepper, totaling 595,388 MT and 9% less in the case of cucumber, totaling 544,129 MT.
Considering the last five years, Andalusian fruit and vegetable sales abroad have grown by 13%, going from 3.9 million MT in 2017 to 4.4 million MT in 2021. Vegetables in these five years have gone from 2.5 million MT to 2.8 million MT, a 12% increase, and fruits have gone from 1.4 to 1.6 million MT, 14%.
