Azerbaijan can take a leading place in the cultivation of sweet cherries and supplies to the Russian market since it has a sufficient export potential, which is estimated at about 300MT.
In 2019, 74.1KMT of sweet cherries were sold in Russia. The main suppliers were Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Moldova, Turkey.
In 2020, the Chinese market was opened for Turkey, so local producers began to supply large-calibre cherries to China. Also, Europe easily imported Turkish cherries at 6-12 euro/kg in 2020.
Currently, the Russian market is not able to pay a comparable price for a sweet cherry, so today cherries in Russia are often sold better than cherries.
