As one of the Portuguese gastronomic culture customs, the octopus has been on Portuguese tables since centuries ago. Nowadays, new product varieties are arising, including baby octopus.

In Portugal, the minimum legal size for catches of this species is 750g, although several companies import smaller products from countries like India, Indonesia, or Thailand. Usually, sizes range from 20 to 60 pieces per kilo and are imported in frozen block or IQF.

The demand is so high, while the supply is low, that in Portugal, a full container is sold within less than a week with no space to create some stock.
