Every year, the price of sugar and other goods climbs ahead of Ramadan due to increased demand. The sugar price rose to USD 0.93 per kg from USD 0.81 per kg a month ago. In this context, the Bangladeshi government has kept a 10% tax remission on sugar imports to keep sugar prices down before Ramadan, which will start in early April 2022. Based on a proposal from the Trade Ministry, Bangladesh's National Board of Revenue reduced sugar import duties from 30% to 20% in October 2021.
