According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), pangasius exports to Brazil in Jan-23 plunged by 79% compared to the same period last year, reaching the lowest level since May-22. Despite the decline in volume, the average price of Vietnamese pangasius exports to Brazil rose to USD 3.06/kg, up by 3% year-over-year (YoY). However, statistics from Vietnam Customs indicate that overall pangasius exports to Brazil in 2023 are projected to reach USD 113 million, marking a 19% increase YoY.

Brazil stands out as one of the few markets showing positive growth in pangasius imports from Vietnam, with consistent 2-3 digit growth recorded in most months of 2023, while other major markets experience declines. Vietnam remains the top supplier of white meat fish to Brazil according to data from the World Trade Center (ITC). Despite lower export prices, the increased turnover suggests continued strong demand for pangasius in Brazil.
