The Brazilian Association of Milk Producers (ABRALEITE)has requested the federal government to implement a temporary intervention in dairy imports. The imports have increased in the past few months and the intervention is considered to be an urgent measure.
ABRALEITE argues that the moment is extremely delicate for the national milk and dairy products sector, with increased costs for the main inputs, especially concentrated foods. Appreciation of milk in the last few months would have been fundamental to balance the exchange ratio with these inputs. Fall in the price paid to the producer makes milk production unfeasible and may cause irreversible financial impacts to producers. “Perfect storm” is being created for the dismantling of the dairy cattle chain.
