Carrot prices rose significantly in the producing region of São Gotardo (MG state), where an increase of 42.90% had been generated compared to the previous fortnight. The supply constriction is the major driver for the successive rise in price rates time after time - an effect caused by the monsoons from weeks ago. The climate in the time being remains unfavorable for the production of roots (both for planting and harvesting), whether is for the inappropriate soil moisture and conditions or due to difficulties for machinery to enter the land, negatively influencing the production and quality of the roots.

Diseases such as “mela” are recurring in this rainy season. Now disseminating factors were spread, which generates a lot of waste and causes an even greater impact on the carrots supply within the main producing region. It is worth remembering that investments in that area had already been reduced in this 2021/22 summer season, and gradual recovery is deemed for the second semester. The price for the dirty carrot boxes found an unprecedented time record, reaching USD 1.21 per kg ex-farm.
