Chilean Salmon and Trout Exports Show Modest Growth from Jan-Oct 2023

According to the Chilean Foreign Trade Statistics, salmon and trout exports from Jan-23 to Oct-23 totaled 625.22 thousand metric tons (mt), reflecting a 3.54% increase compared to the same period in 2022. The export value for this period amounted to USD 5,380 million, indicating a slight growth of 0.04% year-on-year (YoY). However, in Oct-23, exports of these species were valued at USD 587.16 million, representing a 4.7% decrease compared to Oct-22.
The United States (US) continues to be the primary destination for Chilean salmon and trout exports, with 212.71 thousand mt shipped from Jan-23 to Oct-23, amounting to USD 2.37 billion. While this shows a slight increase in volume compared to 2022, the export value decreased by USD 23 million. In addition, Russia and China remain crucial markets for Chilean salmon. From Jan-23 to Oct-23, 40.75 thousand mt were shipped to Russia, with a value of USD 294 million, indicating a significant 39.71% increase compared to the same period in 2022. Similarly, China received 38.11 thousand mt valued at USD 275 million, demonstrating a 66% growth in export value compared to 2022.
