The Chilean avocado 2022/23 season is ongoing, with an estimated 186K tons projected by the country's Avocado Committee. This product continues to increase its presence in the international market, with a significant amount of Chilean production destined for Western Europe. Around 100K tons are forecasted to be exported, while 45% will be allocated to the domestic market and 55% for export. Regarding the international market, while Chile can't compete with Mexico, it exported 7% of the total 124K tons to the United States during the last season. Europe remains the main market, accounting for approximately 69% of the exported fruit in 2021/22. Argentina follows with 15% and China with 7.4%. Compared to the previous season, which produced 220K tons, the estimate for the season decreased due to the climate, with particularly challenging conditions during 2022 according to producers. September frost impacted many farmers, with some experiencing the total loss of their crops.
