The production of yellow onions has been affected by abnormal weather conditions in many European countries. The Southern regions are experiencing a very warm winter with high temperatures that compromise the phytosanitary conditions of yellow onions. The yellow onion needs cold temperatures to maintain its organoleptic characteristics. In W2, a low quantity of product with a short shelf-life is available in the Italian market at the high price of USD 0.70/kg EXW. The demand for yellow onions from Central Europe has sharply increased in the past weeks, causing the price to soar.
